Mastercraft Pro Championships
(Flushing Meadows, New York)

I was one of the first girls off the dock on Friday morning and arrived at the lake surprised to see that the wind was already up at 7:30am in the morning. The beautiful Corona Park was beginning to fill up with a few people who were curious about the event and just wanted to enjoy a cool Friday morning. I went for a little jog to warm up my muscles that were not yet used to the cooler temperatures. When I came back to the start dock I did my usual stretch/warm up routine and listened to my cute little pink mini ipod. It was time to get focused!

The set up on the first start end was obviously quite short and as I jumped into the water I realized exactly how short it would seeing the pre-gate buoys only a few feet away from where I had jumped into the water. The boat would circle, but it would still be a very quick, almost blind, pullout on my first pass. Despite being one of the first water skiers on Corona Park Lake ever in history, I completed my first pass (28off or 14meters) quite easily. After the first pass I always take a deep breath and prepare myself mentally to do it again! I would have a strong tail wind on the second pass and needed to adjust my pullout and energy level for this different wind direction. As I pulled out I could feel a gust of wind pushing me. I ran the pass (32off or 13 meters) smooth and controlled although the wind felt strong and the water a little bumpy. I thought I would have to run my third pass (35off or 12 Meters) to make the semi- finals little did I know it would only take 1 more buoy than I skied. I feel around 2 ball at 35off/12meters which gave me a score of 1 ½ @ 35off/12meters After I skied the wind began gusting even more for a few skiers and several girls fell earlier than I did. My score was not looking as bad as I had originally thought it was, but unfortunately being seeded as one of the first girls out on the water I was at a disadvantage. I missed the cut by 1 buoy. It was disappointing because I had felt good on the water and wanted to ski again for a chance in the finals.

The weekend was still enjoyable because it was in New York City! My boyfriend Glenn Campbell (male slalom skier from the UK) made the first cut to the semi-finals and was one of the top seeds in this round. He just missed the cut for the finals, but we both enjoyed the New York City atmosphere and appreciate the support from Mastercraft and WWSP to make such an exciting event! We will both be at the top this year at some point!
